Description

Glen Springs vent under a limestone ledge

Glen Springs vent under a limestone ledge

Glen Springs is a fourth-magnitude spring situated in the upper end of a wooded ravine. The spring vent flows from limestone in the 18-foot-long by 10-foot-wide head pool, which is enclosed by a concrete wall. Water flows from the head pool into two swimming pools behind the Elks Lodge and then to the spring run. The spring run flows in the ravine toward the southeast for about 500 feet to Hogtown Creek. The spring and pools are used as a private recreational facility.

Discharge

Discharge at Glen Springs was measured by the U.S. Geological Survey five times from 1941 to 1972. St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD) measured discharge in 2000. The difference between the minimum and maximum discharges is 0.29 cubic feet per second (cfs) over the period. The maximum measured discharge of 0.42 cfs occurred in November 1960; the minimum discharge of 0.13 cfs occurred in April 2000. The mean and median discharges for the period are 0.31 cfs and 0.33 cfs, respectively (see the table below).

Water quality

Glen Springs was sampled by the U.S. Geological Survey in 1972 and by SJRWMD in 2000. Summary statistics of the water quality data for selected variables are shown in the table below.
