Deep Creek Conservation Area

Size:
5,374 total acres. This property is jointly owned with the state of Florida.
Location:
In St. Johns and Putnam counties, on the east side of the St. Johns River, north and south of State Road (SR) 207, near the town of Hastings.
Description:
The area is broken into three parts — all adjacent to Deep Creek, or one of its tributaries. The majority of the conservation area is floodplain swamp associated with Deep Creek and the St. Johns River. The largest upland portion, which is dominated by pine flatwoods, is located adjacent to the parking area on County Road (CR) 13.
Wildlife viewing:
Deer and turkey can be seen in the flatwoods near CR 13. The Edgefield portion of the property is a good place to see a variety of wading and marsh birds.
Recreational activities:
- Hiking, biking and wildlife viewing.
- Fishing, boating and paddling opportunities are available on Deep Creek; however, there are no launches located on the property. more info

To ensure public safety and environmental protection, the following are not allowed:
- Removal of plants and animals, or archeological or historical/cultural resources
- Trapping devices
- Off-road vehicles
Access:
From SR 207, east of Hastings, turn north on County Road (CR) 13. Go approximately 3 miles. Parking is on the west side of the road. For boating and paddling opportunities, access can be gained from the SR 207 bridge over Deep Creek, just west of the SR 206 intersection. The creek can also be accessed from the St. Johns River.
