Accessibility statement

At St. Johns River Water Management District, we continue to look for ways to make our site more accessible and useable to as large a segment of the interested public as possible. Since October 2007, all of our site’s pages use cascading style sheets (CSS) to control page layout and formatting rather than nested tables. The CSS method separates a page’s true content (text and images) from its formatting (font colors and sizes, and image and text placement on the page) and allows accessibility by disabled visitors who view the site using alternative web browsing equipment.

As a part of our commitment to improved accessibility, we also are using relative font sizing throughout all of our pages. This means the actual font sizes you see on your computer screen are dependent on the default base font size set within your web browser, and, to some degree, on your monitor’s size and the resolution at which it is set. Relative font sizing allows disabled visitors to increase a font size on their end for improved readability. Sites that use fixed or absolute font sizes (based on points or pixels) preclude such visitors from being able to make these often much-needed adjustments.

All of our site’s pages now render well and quite consistently in Internet Explorer 7 and 8, Firefox, Netscape and Safari browsers. If you are having a problem viewing our site’s pages due to fonts that are either too small or too large, you can control the fonts’ sizes from within your web browser.

To do this in an older browser, such as Internet Explorer 6:

  1. Go to the pull-down menu at the top of the screen
  2. Select View > Text Size > (choose either larger or smaller depending on your need)

To do this in Internet Explorer 7 or 8:

  1. Go to the pull-down menu at the upper right of the screen
  2. Select Page > Text Size > (choose either larger or smaller depending on your need)

This control will have no effect on pages where fixed font sizes are used.
